The purpose of this study was to determine degree of achievement of body coordination among three groups of educable mentally retarded(EMR), trainable mentally retarded(TMR), and Down Syndrom. For this purpose, we provide the basic material to improve the mentally retarded children(MRC)s body coordination. Also this study applied an exercise program for improving body coordination to both the MRC and checked the differences of improvement of some different groups by performing body coordination test. To apply this program, we firstly choosed 42 students at Danial and ChungHyen primary school who are between 10-12 years old. They are equally divided as three groups: educable children who do not suffer the mental retardation, trainable children who suffer the mental retardation, and down Syndrom, group. Inaddition, each groups were sub-divided to exercising and non-exercising group. The exercise had been performed twice in a week and an hour for each exercise. After 6weeks exercising, we compared and analyzed the achievement degree of body coordination before and after exercising by applying body coordination test(6.0cm, 4.5cm, 3.0cm Balancing Backwards, Jumping Sideways, Shifting Platform on Sidewise). The results were as follows 1. The achivement degree of body coordination abilities of the exercising group differs from that of the non-exercising group in each subject, namely 6.0cm, 4.5cm, 3.0cm Balancing Backwards, Jumping Sideways and Shifting on Sidewise. In 6.0cm Balancing backwards and jumping sideways subjects of EMR, TMR and DS groups showed the difference in degree of achivement of body coordination abilities. 2. The exercising group of EMR showed higher improvement than the non-exercising group within the meaningful level P<0.01, P<0.001 for all subjects of B.C.T. except for 3.0cm Balancing Backwards. 3. The exercising group of TMR showed highter improvement than the non-exercising group within the meaningful level P<0.05, P<0.01, P<0.001 for all subjects of body coordination test except for 3.0cm Balancing Backwards and Jumping Sideways. 4. The exercising group of the DS group showed higher improvement than the non-exercising group within the meaningful level P<0.001 for subjects of 3.0cm Balancing Backwards and Jumping Sideways. 5. The improvement of body coordination of the educable MRC was statistically meaningful within P<0.001 level. As the results of comparison of the improvement of subjects, the improvement of EMR was the highest for 6.0cm, 4.5cm Balancing Backwards. The DS group improved 1.85 for 3.0cm Balancing Backwards. The EMR improved 6.21 for jumping Sideways and 2.14 for Shifting Platform on Sidewise.
