If there exists a method that minimizes wait time at checkout registers, it would not only reduce boredom of shoppers, but also improve competitiveness of the retail Department through increased customer satisfaction by eradicating their compulsion to switch the queue. There have been numerous research results on wait time minimization, none of which nevertheless provides a method through which both customers’ wait time and cashiers’ checkout time could be minimized. This paper thus proposes an algorithm that allows for almost identical completion of checkout at all registers through simultaneous minimization of customer wait time and cashier checkout time. The suggested method arranges arriving customers in the ascending order of their checkout processing time, assigns them to the cashier with the lowest checkout time, and thereby swaps customers’ position as to equalize each cashiers checkout execution time. When applied to variegated experimental data, the algorithm has successfully minimized total checkout time of the cashiers and the wait time of the shoppers.
