The purpose of this paper is to consider the English Title Name of Korean Classical novels, to analyze the problem, and to provide an improvement plan. In this paper, the English title Name of Korean Classical novels is divided into three categories. The title name of classical novels in published work; the title name of classical novels in a history of korean literature written in english ; The title name of classical novels in the English abstract in Korean journals.
Features are as follows: (1) In published work, the title name is formed by using metaphor and analogy. It brings about a result that the title name of a novel varies considerably. (2) The title name tends to translate too liberally in the History of Korean literature written by foreign scholars, and it shows verbatim translation in the History of Korean literature published in Korea. (3) The title name tends to use McCune-Reischauer romanization, but it appears ununified in English abstract in Korean journals.
