This paper investigates the listening comprehension of Korean college EFL students with particular regard to optimal combinations of text type and listening support according to proficiency level. The text type is on a casual-academic continuum, and also represents the degree of student exposure to the situation. Listening support means language skill support, and is similar to listening activity, but focuses on the macro-language skills. The three text types employed are directions (conversation), interview (conversation), and Australia (lecture). The three listening supports utilized are reading, listening, and speaking. For high proficiency level students, the optimal combination of text type and listening support is directions and listening; while for low level students, the optimal combination is that of directions and reading.
