Yi Hang-Bok(1566-1618) had more than 40 years of court officer service is one of the famous court officers of the Joseon Korea(1392-1910). Especially he rendered distinguished service during the Korea Japan war(Imjinwaeran, 1592-1597). During the Kwanghae(1607-1623) period he objected the dethrone of the queen dowager at the risk of his life, thus his activity eventually encouraged the morality of the people.
His political doctrines are based on the Neo-Confucianism. He respected the Joseon Confucian legacies and he emphasized moral cultivation and practice rather than theory. He tried to make true the peaceful society in the basis of moral practice. He criticized empty formality of the codes of social conducts and the idle life of the noblesse(Yangban).
His doctrines of moral cultivation, which based on Joseon Neo-Confucianism, got count on preserving the Yagi (freshness of night as the original moral status of human mind and hearts, or becoming the morally imaginative status during the calm night). And not becoming the shameful person is the basic point,
As a Wartime court officer, he emphasized the peaceful society. In his doctrines, the staring point of the peaceful society is the fair and just attitude of king which achieved by means of moral cultivation. He emphasized the moral politics based on the filial piety from the king to the whole kingdom, at the risk of his life. This doctrine is the realization of the Neo-Confucian idealism in the realities of the court politics of Joseon dynasty.
