The March Ist Independence Movement at Daejeon district has been recorded in the Daejeon city journal, and history of Daejeon city and the movement has been researched on the basis of data collection of independence movement and the sentencing.
The March 1st Independence Movement at Daejeon district was sparked at the Indong Market on March 3 and spread out for a month until April 3. The March 1st Independence Movement happened at the nine places including Indong, Yuseong, Saecheon-ri, Dong-myeon, Yucheon, Giseong,Gasuwon-ri, Hoedeok, Sannae, and Chima, etc., where about 3,000 people hurrahed for independence for 16 times.
The Japanese Empire suppressed the hurrah movement for independence by mobilizing the police, the military police, infantry men in the 3th battalion on the 80th regiment, the fire department and a settlement corporation, etc. Due to this suppreseion, about 30 people sacrificed their lives for the country; dozens of people got injured, and about 110 people got arrested. Among the arrested public figures were 13 people sentenced to imprisonment and they had to serve time.
However, there remain a lot of unsatisfactory parts in research work; for example, the regional background of the March 1st Independence Movement, research on participating celebrities, process of Japanese suppression, the weakening of hurrah movement for independence, regional change after the March 1st Independence Movement, research on pro-Japan collaborators & pro-Japan organizations, etc.
Only when these tasks are researched could the actual circumstances of the March 1st Independence Movement at Daejeon district be substantially revealed; in addition, the nature of the March 1st Independence Movement could be clarified.
