This thesis is an A study on Tradition Aspect of Sea Hwa-dam Novels. The times he lived was a period when 4 big purges of Confucian literati were continuous, so conflict and confront were deepening.
Wha-dam, giving himself of the name of Yuja, was aiming for and craving for a Dhyana world against actuality by showing consciousness of aiming at two world of actualityㆍnature and ConfucismㆍTaoist.
He aimed at a transcendent life yearning for a Utopia and holding on to a realistic life, and tried to go with nature being free himself from physical restraint of the world. He, who couldn't help removing realities in interest & continuous expression in the actual, was immersed in a Taoism thought singing hills and waters. Because Wha-dam's dhyana space was nature, a craving for the emancipation of self and a fairyland through the medium of nature was naturally expressed.
By immersing in Taoist ideas on the basis of confucian ideas, he wrote Sea Hwa-dam Novel including confucian & Taoist Novel. So he was appraised as a person who contributed much to our Novel literature history with confucian and Taoism. (Daegu University)
