This thesis interested in the relation between modernity and American movies which were a lot of showed in South Korea between 1945-1948.
There was confusion and disorder in Seoul after liberation. When Japen went back, South korea didn't have the infrastructure for example supply electric powers, traffic offenders, communication facilities because they were in North Korea. There were an high unemployment ratio and high price index. Most of Koreans have hoped realization of modem national state, abolition of feudalism and the leftovers that had left from Japanese colonial era and wished advent of modem culture. Even if they have wanted the modem culture, the situation was not good so that it was the same of the motion picture world.
The spectators have satisfied through the movies which had been imported from the western for example America, British, France, Italy and so on which was called just 'the western movie'. The western movies which were showed in Seoul have been making the image which many Koreans imagines the western. The most people have been shocked, perplexed and captivated the modernity that was represented in the western movies. Thus many Koreans have experienced the modernity through the movies and it have been separated experience so that it have companied an envy, worship and eager.
The military government (1945-1948) has established the foundations modern Korea. There are many important historical incidents which had been organizing modem Korea for example liberation from the Japanese colony, starting of divided country, and formation of pro-Japanese, pro-American. It has been repeated the politics, economics, history and culture. In brief this thesis searched circumstances that was accepted the western movies and analyzed the mediation and relocation of modem experience in military government (1945-1948).
