Wenceslao, one of the most popular spanish novelists, was born in La Coruna of Province Galicia in 1885, His writing started from journalism which was transformed to writing the social-critic novel. We can find out the satire and the humor as the most novelistic elements in most of his novels like 〈El Proceso de los dias〉(l915). In the process of his fictional world, the humor has adquired more importance than satire. According to the author's theory about the humor, this rethoric element is free of social protest that the satire contains.
Wenceslao's novelistic world consist of three periods: naturalistic realism, social-critical realism and fantastic realism. The author was negatively estimated as a popular novelist by most of contemporary critics. So in the most of the books about the spanish literature history, we cannot find out his name.
From the decade 1980 the revaluation about his novels has been done not by the literary critics but by the filmmakers. The spanish movie director Jose Luis Cuerda made the film 〈El Bosque animado〉 in 1987 based the same titled Wenceslao novel. And in La Coruna University celebrated the international academic congreso about the spanish novelist in 1985.
His fantastic novels were revaluated in our postmodem period, in which the artistic world is forming a new popular 'aura' corresponding to the new mass.
In his novels we meet with the creative combination of two apparently absurd novelistic factors: the serious themes (nihilism, apocalytic vision, cult for devil) and irreal and fairy-tale-type narrative forms (medieval toned adventure, mistic animism, episodic narrative structures).
