This study attempts to empirically verify hypotheses regarding the causal relationships among pavilion exhibitors' activities, visitors' interest and exhibitors' performance at trade shows. Structural equation modeling analysis, using date from 220 exhibitors at Korean pavilions, was employed to test the fitness of the research model. The research model met criteria showing a good fit against the data. The empirical findings of this research indicate that: first, marketing activities of exhibitors and the stages of pre-show and on-show had a positive causal effect on visitors' interest; second, with the exception of pre-show activities, on-show and post-show activities positively and directly affected the performance of pavilion exhibitors; and third, visitors' interest has a positive influence on post-show activities and a strong effect on exhibitors' relative performance. Moreover, pre-show activities showed a causal relationship with on-show activities, and a similar causal relationship was found between on-show activities and post-show activities.
The results of this study suggest that co-exhibitors of group pavilion, in spite of pavilion organizer's supporting role, should exert their best efforts at each of the pre-show, on-show and post-show stages. In addition, they should invite many potential visitors and buyers to their booths and engage in active promotional activities at each stage, as those factors are shown in this study to have a positive effect on the exhibitors' performance, which is the most imperative reason for Korean exhibitors' participation in international trade shows.
