This article deals with African attempts to achieve regional economic integration. Most of Africa's nation-states have proved themselves to be economically unviable as independent sovereign entities. So regional integration is seen as measures for development nation's competitiveness. The article observes that integration outcomes have fallen far short. It examines the reason for Africa's relative lack of success in securing the objectives of integration. In 1992, the Southern Africa Development Coordination Conference changed its name to th Souther Africa Development Community and broadened its concerns to facilitating regional economic integration, including freer intra-regional trade. The Southern African Development Community(SADC) is more likely than others to provide the basis for successful economic cooperation, due to the participation of South Africa. The article suggest problems, potential of SADC. If SADC' effort will be success, eventually its members increase nation's competitiveness.
