This thesis criticizes the outcome of the research on "Kim Hak-gong Jeon" and suggests a couple of problems. They are, if itemized, as follows.
First, the research on different books should be discussed newly including all different books that have been introduced until now. Although there are not so many different books that have been introduced to the academic world, there has not been any discussion about them. That means the research on "Kim Hak-gong Jeon" is still in an early stage. It is necessary that we should discuss the six transcribed books and one printed book. In that case we can choose the best one for the genuine discussion as well as the sequence of the background of China or Korea.
Second, the discussion of the course of formation was considerably fruitful in terms of the novelization of narrative literature. Although "Kim Hak-gong Jeon" is based on the structure of "Boksu Seol", it not only uses the structure of heroic novels but also accepts a tale related to killing a master, a tale about coming to life, a transmitted folk song. That makes "Kim Hak-gong Jeon" have a different creative double plot from "Boksu Seol". Just when we examine the pattern how these are accepted in broad perspective, we can clarify the course of formation of "Kim Hak-gong Jeon".
Third, the work discussion of "Kim Hak-gong Jeon" is one of the problems to be progressed steadily from now on. This work deals with the eager and frustration for raising a social status of a private slave in the late Chosun Dynasty. That aspect makes it estimated to have a special meaning in the history of our novel. Nevertheless, this work didn't attract suitable attention for the importance. If we utilizes the results of research on slaves conducted in the historic world, the work discussion on "Kim Hak-gong Jeon" will bear fruitful results. If the research on "Kim Hak-gong Jeon" is activated with some problems proposed in the above, we will be able to disclose the course of formation, the plot and theme, the writer's consciousness, the rank in the history of a novel, etc.
