The purpose of this study is research on the mentality of Busan in the Korean modern poetry.
Busan Port was both a inflow route of modern civilization and a bridgehead of colonial plunder. And it was crowded with korean abroad returning to Korea and refugees in the periods of liberation and the Korean War. Jagalchi had started to be brought into relief through periods of opening a port and Japan's colonial rule of Korea.
Space symbolizing Busan had been led by Busan Port until the period of the Korea War, but from then on, has been led by Jagalchi. A weight shift of mentality has been accomplished by symbolism of Busan transferring from Busan Port to Jagalchi. On the one hand Busan Port had formed a economical foundation of modern project in a flow of modernity, and on the other Jagalchi has acquired a mass's symbolism as mass's life space.
Therefore Jagalchi has become symbolic space of mass's literature by acquiring a symbolism as poor mass's living grounds in the period of the Korean War.
But Jagalchi get faced with lost of the nature of masses, because it could be eliminated from Jagalchi owing to the project of modernizing Jagalchi, In other words, the mentality of Busan is faced with danger in lost of mass's symbolic space.
Therefore, it must be a important following task how to preserve and incarnate the nature of masses in the mentality of Busan.
