Busan as a local place appears in the new-novel of Korean modern literary history. It appears with the start of new age as Busan opens the port. The new-novel suggests the eagerness for the new idea of modem society. The changes Busan confronted result from the introduction of transformation and electric communication. But the awareness that Busan experiences the degradation of modem society is clearly from 「Mansaegeon」. In colonial reality, Busan witnesses the hardness of th period which Korean people undertake in the political atmosphere such as inspection, surveillance, and making a document for traveling.
「Nackdonggang」, chooses Busan as a particular place of showing Korean realism in modem literature. Furthermore this novel describes Busan better than in 「Mansaegeon」. Because 「Mansaegeon」, grasps the meanings of Busan partly, in comparison with 「Nackdonggang」.
The features of Busan as a temporary capital during the Korean War show the refugees' consciousness, and this city symbolizes itself as the place that we can see the structural transformation of Korean society and the distrust and contempt of Korean people in that period.
Indigenous writings in a local area are found in Kim Jeong-han's novels, who is from Dong-nai. He started his writings with the farming-novels in the middle of the 1930s, and overcomes difficulties of the period by writing as an intellectual in the era of post-emancipation.
He also overcomes it by describing the frustration of the 1950s and the dictatorial contradiction of the 1960s. He tries to show us that these contradictions are connected with Korean modem history ruined completely.
In 1947, Lee Joo-hong was inclined to describe ordinary life, and Oh Young-soo tried to find the truth in the power of ordinary life. ill this context, they are different from Kim Jeong-han. And they broaden the vista of Busan as a modem local literature.
