The purpose of this thesis is to clarify the characteristic of the reign of Ahaz the king of Judah by comparing the passage of 2Kings 16, 2Chronicles 28, and Isaiah 7-8 where the reign of Ahaz is written and to display the relationship between 2Kings and Isaiah.
Also, by deducting the similarities and differences among three passages, I try to find the reason why there are differences in 2Kings 16, 2Chronicles, and Isaiah 7-8. Is it because the writers respectively have their own points of view, or is it the result of the new understanding and new interpretation of the reign of Ahaz?
To find the reason, this thesis
1) refers to the problem of the period of the reign of Ahaz (because the period is different in each passage),
2) shows the differences of each passage (2King 16, 2Chronicles 28, Isaiah 7-8),
3) shows the meaning of the differences,
4) insists that the reason of the differences is because the accumulation of newer documents as time went by, and the need for a new understanding and interpretation concerning the event or person.
A historical fact such as the reign of Ahaz can be understood differently according to the period and this means that the fact has certain important meaning at the period.
In the Old Testament, the description of the reign of Ahaz is written in three books - 2Kings, 2Chronicles and Isaiah. If we figure out the differences among three books, we can see how the same historical fact can be understood and evaluated differently, and we can find the reason why the differences exist.
Therefore, if the reign of Ahaz was written differently in three passages, it means that the reign of Ahaz has meaning and effect in imminent periods.
