The Internet has become an exciting and challenging place for contemporary Christian educators. The dramatically increasing number of websites dedicated to Christian education has proven their enthusiasm and interests for using the Internet to reach out to young generation. Contemporary adolescents are known as one of the most active users of the Internet. Given this information, numerous Christian educational websites have been produced, focusing on this age group. However, a systematic and empirical study of these websites is rarely done. This study aims to analyze the ways of communication in adolescent Christian educational websites. To do so, this study develops a theoretical framework for analysis. It consists of two communication models: a transmission model and a constructivist model. The results of the content analysis suggest that most sample websites tend to have more features that are consistent with forms of the transmission model than the constructivist model. Most of them tend to use the Internet as one-way traditional communication media, mainly for transmitting knowledge and information. The more fundamental and urgent problem of the websites sampled in this study is their lack of substantial educational content. Christian educators need to develop educational contents which are tailored for contemporary adolescents, maximizing the potential of the Internet. This study may provide a glimpse of current adolescent Christian educational websites and hopefully find a direction for future study and practice in the field.
