This is a proposal for the improvement of Korean studies and Korean language lecture programs in Russia. The textbooks being used in Russian universities were analyzed to obtain the proposal to be made. Textbooks that are the objects of the analysis consist of three categories: textbooks of korean language; textbooks of korean literature; textbooks of social sciences.
Before getting into the detailed analysis of the textbooks, some problems being revealed in the process of collecting the textbooks were discussed. The first problem is the unwillingness of Russian universities to cooperate with Korean scholars especially in the field of Korean studies. The second problem is the inaccuracy and the invalidity of the informations from Russian universities. Russian universities are not eager to update the new information related to Korean studies. The third problem is the lack of communication between Russian universities offering Korean studies.
As far as Korean language textbooks are concerned, eleven textbooks were analyzed including four textbooks published in Korea. The best Korean language textbook written and published in Russia is Каплан, Т.Ю., Верхоляк В.В., Пархоменко С.Ю., Дерюгина Т.С., Учебник корейского языка для студентов невостоковедных специальностей . Владивосток: Издательство Дальневосточного университета, 2004. This textbook reveals all sorts of strong aspects as a textbook: structure, vocabulary, grammar explanations, dialogue, text for reading and exercise for review.

История корейской традиционныой литературы (до ХХ в.) . Издательство Санкт?Петербурского университета, 2004. сс.322. Two Korean history books were also analyzed: 1. Курбанов, С.О. Курс лекций по истории Кореи с древности до конца ХХ века . Издательство Санкт?Петербурского университета, 2002. 2. Торкунов, А.В. История Кореи (Новое прочтение) . Москва: Росспэн, 2003. Two textbooks related to Korean economics were also analyzed: 1. Кузнецова Н.В. И.А. Толстокулаков, Развитие корейской экономики: уроки переходного периода . Владивосток: Издательство Дальневосточного государственного университета, 2001. 2. Кузнецова, Н.В., Н.И. Фокин, Экономическое развитие Республики Корея: Ресурсы, проблемы, перспективы . Владивосток: Издательство Дальневосточного университета, 2003. One politics related textbook was analyzed: Толстокулаков, И.А. Развитие демократического процесса в Южной Корее в Период Ⅵ Республики . Владивосток: Издательство Дальневосточного университета, 2003. Finally a book of Korean proverbs and sayings was analyzed: Лим Су Золотые слова корейского народа . Санкт Петербург: Издательство Санкт?Петербурского университета, 2003.
Though it was impossible to analyze all the textbooks on the same level, it is worthwhile to scrutinize them to come up with some idea to improve Korean language as well as Korean social sciences related lecture programs in Russia.
