An internet novel is one that is come out on the internet and becomes popular among readers. The criteria of success is how many people get on the internet to read it and by its very nature lies in the hands of young people, the main internet users, from the age of mid-teens to mid-twenties. The purpose of this article is to review the internet novel's positive influence on the society by scrutinizing the way teenagers produce and spend enjoyment through an internet novel.
Internet culture mainly consists of teenagers ad lib sensibility which can be seen in young people's language. Their mode of expression is not 'a written language' but 'spoken language of chatting' or 'a compound word' with an emoticon which has been developed in order to know at once someone's intimate feelings. The characteristics of the internet novel are improvisation, frivolity, disorder, unrest, uproar and so on which are also characteristics of the pastime culture. In sum, an internet novel is an icon of young people's pastime culture.
In internet novels, teenagers' challenges to socialvalue using various ways of talking lead a laugh by eliciting unexpected event. Their ways of talking are characterized by unthoughtfulness, haughtiness, frivolity, a robust sense, an ill-cultivated act, intemperance, inconsideration, lack of emotion, gracelessness. The exposure of primitiveness and vulgarity causes a laugh at once. A laugh in an internet novel works as the code of young people's deviation and resistance against the order of the older generation and as the code of a search for young people themselves. This means that, for juveniles, an internet novel functions as a solution to their complaints and frustration.
An internet novel becomes closed in character by inventing external language only used by young people. External language is a made-up language in an abbreviated form for a faster internet chatting. Young people have fun with it even though it is impossible for older generation to understand it. Specially, newly made external language is ranked as a great wit. A laugh through the external language is regarded as a selfish satisfaction with the contempt for other people.
A description of a scene at the internet novel is chatting-oriented and an emoticon is adopted as a description of expression. By doing so, a chatting style and an emoticon become symbols of actualfeeling expression causing spread of a laugh. Particularly a laugh from the emoticon, showing true feelings, becomes an important culture code.
Among other genre, an internet novel is a better tool of expressing human sensibilities and searching for a laugh. A laugh functions as an outlet for the stresses and strains of our daily lives. A laugh from the internet novel works as an element for pure communication about humans by exercising their imagination.
