Gogyuryeo' s attacks on Buyeo took place two times during the co-existence history of the two countries for about 500 years. The first was the war at the southern part of Jinbbeol region of Buyeo and the second was attack by Gwanggaeto the great of Goguryeo in 410.
The result of the first attack was lost to Goguryeo but could expand to Yuha(柳河) and Yonggang(龍崗山) mountain that was under existing control of Buyeo. Castles built or used during this period are Natong(羅通) MT. castle, Joeodae(釣魚臺) old castle of Iltongha(一統河) shore.
The result of the second attack by Gwanggaeto the great had accomplished big victory taking most of regions of Buyeo. At that time, Goguryeo took all regions of the former capital of Jilin(吉林) city and Jiaohe(蛟河) city including the latter capital of Yeosung(餘城). Gwanggaeto the great had recognized autonomous government only in Liaoyuan(遼源) city region, the latter capital and for all other regions, dispatched protecting generals for direct control. Castles built or used during this time are total 20 castles and the typical castles are Chengzhisan(城子山山城) MT. castle of Xifeng(西豊), Longtuansan(龍潭山) MT. castle of Jilin city, and Nansan(南山) MT. castle of Jiaohe(蛟河) city. These castles were mainly built or used to prevent the flow of northen Mulgil(勿吉) into the south.
The last latter capital of Liaoyan city regions was recognized autonomous government until king of Buyeo, and escaped into Goguryeo in 494 when it finally fell under direct control of Goguryeo. Since then, Goguryeo had built Yongsusan(龍首山) MT. castle to defend more firmly from the southern attack of northem powers like Mulgil(勿吉) in the north.
