This paper is an analysis on the data after collecting and arranging Japanese literature books translated and published in Korea from 1945 to 2005. The purpose of this paper is to clarify the standpoint and attitude of Koreans as receivers how they internalized Japanese literature for the 60 years after liberation from Japan.
The analyses were processed broadly in two criteria. First is in chronological order. In this criterion, the researcher analyzed how modern Korean history affected the reception of Japanese literature translation works by the period through the political and social changes of Korea. And the second is by the emphasis on best sellers and steady sellers. By selecting the works and writers that were the most translated during the 60 years, the researcher intended to explain why such works were that much read by Koreans.
As Japanese literature works are interlinked culturally instead of ideologically, an the analysis on the attitude of receiving the translated works can give an observation of the trend of satisfying the contemporary Korean society cultural behavior and intellectual curiosity. That is, understanding the preferences of Korean readers accepting Japanese literature, first requires an overview of Korea situation, however it means the trend of accepting the translated Japanese literature may adversely reflect the culturo-historical changes of Korean society after independence.
The progress of clarifying the history of translated works is also a job to look into the difference of the attitudes Korea accepts Japanese literature and literature of other countries to Korea beyond simply to understand the trend of Japanese literature. Such reviews, expectedly, may give an opportunity to look back to the past of Korean literature and prospect the future development directions as well as research the Korea cultural phenomena and ultimately expect and demand about Japanese literature.
