The fables of this paper are mainly from ≪sushi works≫ and some left works. This essay not only contains the mixedfables but also contains the independent fables. These fables truly reflect the social status of the Northern Song Dynasty and the author’s life experiences. Su Shi’s character is very frank and open. When he was a young man he was so ambitious. He always cared about common people and his country firstly. For the ‘long-term stability’ of the Northern Song Dynasty he has engaged a fierce struggle with other politicians who held the opposite suggestion. His literary talent is so good and always writes something from easy stories to deep principles. So he has given the Emperor Song Shen a lot of good advice. In order to enhance persuasion of his works, he has used so many fables in his discussing policies. He has made this kind of powerful image and reasoning tools develop to the extreme.
In this paper he has also used many other country’s fables. Some fables were used to reveal that society’s disadvantages, some were used against the political reforms and some were used to sarcasm the arrogant bureaucrats. And he also can examine his fables and tolerate other fables.
Su Dong-po inherited and developed the outstanding traditions of pre-Qin Fables. Some fables in his papers has become the basis and the substance of argument. Hence it would be different from the anaclisis of the pre-Qin fables. Moreover, his rich imagination and creative expression, especially the deeper and deeper methods have created a kind of new SuShi-style fable. He also used puns and humorous to creat a lot of jokes and these fables have a great impact on future generations.
