There are some similarities and differences between Kim Kwang Gyun and He Qifang in theories of their poetries. The purpose of this paper is to find and draw a comparison of them 1) Both Kim Kwang Gyun and He Qifang have actively ackonwledged and faced up to the development and change of the times, and put forward new poetic forms which are compatible with the times. 2) Both of them have considered poets as the leader of the changeble times. In order to reconcile the developmental times, they have asked the poets to elevate their minds. 3) Both of them have thought that life is the source of poetry, 4) In the selection of poetry language , both of them have thought that poets should choose the modern language which is the result of the developmental times. Kim Kwang Gyun suggests using urban language which consistents with urban life, while He Qifang places emphasis on modern spoken language. 5) Comparing with the theory of Kim Kwang Gyun’s Formal Thought, He Qifang has his own special Representation Function Thinking. Though He Qifang’s theory is not a systematic theory , it has a surpring resemblance to Kim Kwang Gyun’s, The little difference is that Kim Kwang Gyun proposed Formal Thought consciously in order to meet the need of the developmental times, while He Qifang’s Representation Function Thinking is based on the way of his writing. This way was beyond his personal thinking and was developed when he was young.
The comparative study of Chinese and Korean modernism begins with the study of Kim Kwang Gyun and He Qifang’s poetries, In this paper, I first draw a comparison with their poetry theotries, and this will be the base of studying their poetries in the future.
