In this article, a method of integrated teaching of the Korean language and culture has been presented for the practical teaching-learning plans in Korean culture education.
First of all, the goal of the integrated teaching of the Korean language and culture has been set as the development of the translingual and transcultural competence, which leads to the successful communication relevant to the cultural context.
The basic concept of the translingual and transcultural competence is to understand the language and culture as an integration; to interpret culture from the philosophical ground; and to pursue the harmony and coexistence.
To develop the translingual and transcultural competence, four practical ways have been suggested; (1) the integration of the Korean language and culture, and the integration of four areas in Korean, that is, speaking, listening, reading and writing; (2) presentation of culture in its own context; (3) learner-centered teaching plans; (4) understanding of culture 1 and culture 2 by way of comparative studies between culture 1 and 2.
As a result, this article has discussed the goal and the scope of teaching and learning of the Korean language. Further research on practical teaching-learning models can be based on the discussion in this article.
