This paper has the purpose to study similarity of Stranger Than Paradise and Distant in view of mutual understanding. Because these movies are results of minimalism & transcendentalism.
Jim Jarmusch says that his works has lack of plot. Because he writes the centering on days of character better than the centering on dramatic events. Nuri Bilge Ceylan says that he puts the key point in examining closely the problem of the society or on usual of the individual, too. These movies, Stranger Than Paradise and Distant, cause always the problem of the mutual understanding because of the minimalism of dialog among their characters. This fact is the key point of these works. Camera working styles of Jim Jarmusch & Nuri Bilge Ceylan are the minimalism so that camera locate themselves far away from the characters. Camera observes the gestures and actions of the heros at the objective frame of the static state. And it makes the personalities(ethos) & subject of characters through the detail situations of the gestures & actions. Then observers can get the right of choice among many details. Distant was made in the inferior environment which has only four staffs. He makes the new work as the directing of creatable ideas that he gets in the transcendentalism like the new wave cine-artists. Jim Jarmusch much prefers directing of the transcendentalism to entrusting the method actors.
The similarity of Stranger Than Paradise and Distant is the images of these work's subject. It is the images of the constituent part and isolation through the loss of one's family, the contradiction of feeling or opposition between interior and exterior. These movies have the plot of Bertolt Brecht and discontinuous narration. Although These reach the cinema audiences as the movie of the true neorealism. Because these are be eloquent of the usual details.
