This essay made it clear that Kim Soo-Young’s poetry is very difficult to understand because his sense of avant-garde and sense of denial are running in his poetry. And this difficulty, avant-garde and denial of Kim Soo-Young converge into the ultimate value, ‘being new’. These three distinctive features of Kim Soo-Young’s poetry make each other as the necessary and sufficient conditions. Kim Soo-Young denied the existing value system and tradition because the ‘being new’ of poetry cannot be acquired without denying them. And to deny them, he makes sense of avant-garde as the core of his poetic consciousness.
Sense of avant-garde as the driving power of denial aims at ‘engagement’ and ‘disquiet’ at the same time. Kim Soo-Young’s poetic consciousness confirmed by his poetics is consist of double simultaneity in the point of being directly connected with action. Kim Soo-Young’s poetry moves forward to the new ‘denial’ at the place where the denial of the existing value system is realized.
Kim Soo-Young’s poetry opening the possibility of seizing multiple meaning about things and phenomenon originated in double vision is distinctively revealing the essence of ‘being new’ in dealing with daily life. In 「孔子의 生活難」, it is made clear that the double vision of two beings, ego and also the other to each other, is existing in the a poem simultaneously. The expansion of the vision not unifying the opposite concepts, science and sense, is confirmed in 「거리 (一)」
And in 「美濃印札紙」, this essay looked into aspects of ‘being new’ at which his denial aims, in the course of revealing frankly the negative aspects of his life by showing details of daily life. The point that being avant-grade new which Kim Soo-Young intends to acquire through denial, sometimes shows the experimental aspect which makes it impossible to grasp the meaning of poem impossible, could be seized through analyzing 「電話이야기」 and 「꽃잎 (二)」.
Being new of modern art is not originally a some positive slogan but it begins with declaring the denial of the things which should not be existed. Being new of modern art is not to deny the art activities of preceding period but to deny the tradition itself. This concept explains the avant-grade features of the poetry of Kim Soo-Young who intended to write a new poem by denying and innovating poetic tradition of the preceding generations.
