History textbook intermediates between pupils and history, taking a important part in the history education. It exercises a far-reaching influence on student's understanding of history, but has become a target of strong criticism for a long time because of miscommunication with it's reader. The form of description, especially expository which used in textbook ordinarily locates itself in the core of criticism.
In this research, I tried to propose alternative ways for making better textbook description, characteristics of history narrative gave a helping hand me by much. To have evidences backing up the theoretical assertion that narrative can promote the communication, I planned questionnaires composed of four narrative materials and three questions which demand to order materials by two criterion, 'interesting and read easily', 'having qualities as textbook' and note three sentences pass the voices of writer. During 50minutes, 120 high school students read carefully, and answer the questions.
Then analysed student's answers, I picked out meaningful implications of using benefits of history narrative to make textbook better ; clearing the voice of writer, embodiment of performer's doings and connecting events more closely would improve communication between readers and texts. lastly I revised the some textbook description by above, with intent to show practicable cases.
