In this article, exactly what kind of lives the Sajok figures of the Joseon society who encountered a devastating war with the Japanese which broke out in the Imjin-year(1592) were leading, is examined. Jeong Gyeong Wun was a local Sajok figure in the Gyeongsang-do province's Hamyang region, and when the war broke out, he chose to participate in an Euibyeong militia movement in the homefront region to fight the Japanese troops. But in 1597, when the war resumed in the Jeongyu year, Hamyang fell to the Japanese troops, and Jeong Gyeong Wun evacuated the region with this friends, and retumed to the region one year after the war was over.
In Iksan, the place he chose as a refuge, he did not have any social ties to the region, and faced with utter poverty, he was totally excluded from any type of official functions, Only after he established a friendship with the Iksan prefect, he could maintain his social dignity as a Sajok figure who could also drink with the officials at the local office of affairs, Interestingly, his own predicament at the time provides us with a unique clue which could explain how the Sajok figures reconstructed the local communities after the war by establishing a social net that was so thick.
Even during the war Jeong Gyeong Wun continued to express interests in matters such as agricultural production, Nobi workers, memorial services for the ancestors, national examinations, seats in public offices, matters involving his own son, etc, Agricultural production and the Nobi workers composed his own economy, and the national examination and public office seats were tunnels through which he would thrive politically in the future, Memorial services for the ancestors were methods of realizing Confucian ideology, and his own son was important because he would become his own heir in the house, The matters and issues which Joeng Gyeong Wun expressed interests in, show us what exactly the local Sajok figures were contemplating and aiming for at the time during a war.
