The purpose of this study is to explore a possibility of changes in gender equity perception of male and female middle school students through the application of physical education teaching strategies for gender equity. Data-collecting methods included participant observation, narrrative observation, in-depth interviews, VTR recording, document collection and open questionnaires. The constant comparative method was also used to employ and reflect the outcome in the collection of additional data. In addition, member checks, peer debriefing and triangulation were used to ensure trustworthiness of data.
The research findings can be summarized as follows:
First, through the application of physical education teaching strategies for gender equity, both male and female students took pleasure while participating in class meetings. With the accumulation of experiences and effects of repetitive exercises. male students could cultivate appreciative eyes for the flow of games while female students could confirm their potentials of game-related physical skills like the ability to practically use basic skills.
Second, as to understanding of genders, students formed a sense of comradeship in the process of cooperating with each other for the common good while living together for a long period of time as members of teams consisting of both male and female students. Also through basketball games, they showed a possibility to cultivate an attitude that understands each other and acknowledges and considers personalities of others as well as their own strong points.
