This is a fundamental study on urban and national land planning of North Korea. In the background of study, the pertinence of study on North Korean cities is proposed. In chapterⅡ, the general methodology of communist urban planning is introduced. In chapterⅢ, the population and urbanization of North Korea is analyzed, as a basic approach. In chapter Ⅳ, urban and national land development is studied centering around development policy, transportation and housing. In chapterⅤ, spatial structure of Pyeong Yang City is analyzed centering around development, history, city development policy, public transportation and housing.
Finally this paper is concluded by comparing the cities in South and North Korea.
For the advancement of North Korean city study, materials on North Korean cities should be imported and opened more positively.
