A purpose of this thesis is to take a broad view of a structure of conflict shown in a long novel. To analyze it, a type of conflict is classified, defined by a desire and an ideology.
Conflict can be divided into three types: conflict between a desire of a male protagonist and an ideology of a male and a female protagonist, conflict between a desire of a male and a female antagonist and an ideology of a male and a female protagonist and conflict among an ideology of a male and a female protagonist. A desire shown in the first type of conflict is sharply against an ideology and finally drops off. And the character having the desire remains in his family. In the second type of conflict, a character having a desire is defeated by a character having an ideology. The types of a defeat are like that he or she is completely defeated or he or she is sorry for what they have done. The third one shows a confrontation between the protagonists. The conflict is caused by an ideology of filial piety between a married couple. It shows a rigidity of filial piety.
