Understanding of meter in Korean poem will provide leads in the proper comprehension of poem and a pertinent creative works of one. Moreover, it gives feasible succession and development of Korean traditional meter. Even though partition of basic unit is the groundwork of understanding of meter, partition of basic unit is beset with perplexing difficulties at this point in time. An objective evaluation of partition is regarded as impossibility in the real state of things. Here, we pointed out those controversial problems and tried to find out an objective elucidation in partition of basic unit.
Syllables which is composed of basic unit doesn’t have same time interval and it is not possible to read a shortened one, even if it includes a lot of syllabicity. In the meantime, meter in poem might have a one beyond a reader and a writer’s intension. In conclusion, partition of basic unit in Korean poem is not fixed syllabicity which is claimed in earlier syllabic metric types. Furthermore, it couldn’t be a basis to be read less or more. We found that it can be explained using vibration of syllabicity. Excessive vibration of syllabicity is uncertain vibration of syllabicity in itself.
