Based on the investigation of paper making skills of six minority nationalities in Yunnan, the paper studies on the original places of Asian traditional paper making. It thinks that Chinese traditional paper making skill used a moveable mould to produce a kind of thin paper originated from a silk making process. Ancient Indian traditional paper making skill used a fixed mould to produce a kind of thick paper originated from making bark cloths. Not only the two systems of skills are completely different, but also their methods of uses. Asian traditional paper making skills have the different original places. According Chinese ancient documents, the paper shows that ancient India had its own paper making skill before 284 AD.
The paper proves that Chinese traditional paper making skill that used moveable mould was introduced into Bangladesh (a part of ancient India) and Bhutan as the paper for writing and other ordinary uses. Ancient Indian traditional paper making skill that used fixed-mould was brought to Tibet, Yunnan of China and other Southeastern Asian countries. The paper main use is to write Buddhist scriptures. Its spread was related with Buddhist culture. Compared with ancient Indian paper making skill, Chinese skill has brought about more world wild influence in the world.
