Ham, Sedeok’s plays in the late 1940s showed that he came to have the new recognition on the form of nation and the main people of nation, that is to say, it is revealed in his various works including Komok that he thought of the socialist state as the ideal. He emphasized that the proletariat had to play the leading role in choosing the new form of nation which the nation would establish. Ham Sedeok tried to reproduce such ideology he had chosen through his works and his intention made the ordinary people’s life which had disappeared in his works since Sanheoguri appear again extensively in his major works. As a result, his works of th late 1940s came to have the characteristics of the propaganda play. The objects of his plays were the people living in the South Korea and to persuade these people who had different ideology, he made use of the scene of debate as a major technique in his playwriting.
In the early 1940s, Ham, Sedeok published many post-Japan works. Though he carried out faithfully the aims of national theatre which Japan forced the playwrights to follow, he tried to evade them being expressed directly in his plays. But in his works of the late 1940s, he revealed his claims clearly in his plays. That’s because he had the firm confidence of the ideology he had chosen. In this term, his works have the value as the model of attacking propaganda. He was much influenced by Park Heonyoung’s ‘The These of August’ and because of it, he came to think highly of the revolution made jointly and severally with people.
His rebel-spirit made Ham, Sedeok a socialist dramatist. Though he couldn’t resist the wrong reality directly, he tried not to accept it blindly and took Park Heonyoung’s ‘The These of August’, making it as his ideological foundation. Therefore Ham Sedeok’s works in the late of 1940s can be appreciated as the great works in which his ideology is properly presented.
