Later years of Wang Yangming, he advocated a theory of fulfillment of innate good knowing(致良知) however dead before made he clear system in his thought. Because of his ambiguous teaching, his disciples dispute each other about the interpretation of 'four sentence teaching'(四勾敎) which have double meaning of innate good knowing both as a Mind&Heart itself or substance of Mind&Heart that transcend good and evil and as its function which distinguish between good and evil
While a group of his students whose leader was Wang Lungxi(王龍溪) insisted that the Mind&Heart itself unfolded its moral function spontaneously without any self cultivation another group whose representative was Chuan Xusan(全緖山) insisted that we needed the self cultivation constantly until the function of Mind&Heart recovered its original substance, absolute good. A third group's head was Nieh Shuangjiang (攝雙江) criticize both Wang Lungxi and Chuan Xusan and insisted that we needed to return the quiet of Mind & Heart itself in order to maintain the absolute innate good knowing itself which meaned the Heavenly Principle(天理).
Nieh Suangjiang said that if the Mind&Heart itself be established, then its function will be followed naturally.
