Based on Talyorism and Fordism, American automobile industry jumped over France of the top, and in 1913 finally became the first all over the automobile industries world. French industrialists accepted Talyorism and Fordism to catch up with American industry. But they only partially accepted them. In other words, without the complete preparation, the enough mechanical equipment and the increased wage, which were necessary for the realization of Taylorism and Fordism, French automobile manufacturers tried to increase the productivity by introducing the timekeeping and piece rate, which could permit them to exploit the most of the workers’ muscular power, resulting in the immediate effects. They believed their rationalization method to cut down the most of their expense and impose most of responsibility for the raise of productivity to the workers. Although they couldn’t reach the level of the productivity as much as they expected through the method, it was a useful method to control workers. Taylorism prevented the skilled workers from keeping the autonomy in the production process to a certain extent, and the work on the conveyor belt forced the workers to obey a speed of machine, allowing the employers to control more workers with a smaller staff. It was also important to point out that the traditionally combative skilled workers come to accept a lower managerial position, with which the rationalization provided them, playing a lower part of workers’ control, and serving a employer’s policy. It could be said that the difficulty of strengthening the ties between the skilled workers and the unskilled workers was another result of the rationalization.
