Tianjin Port is one of the largest ports in the amount of import and export trade in North China. In recent years, the amount of import and export goods through Tianjin Port has been increased. However. the ratio of throughput of goods of foreign trade to total that of the port goes up unsteadily. And even the amount of import and export goods of some province through Tianjin Port is showing a tendency to reduce.
At present, in order to further develope the sources of goods of foreign trade of the hinterlands of Tianjin Port ,It's necessary to be on the basis of renewing the concepts and providing the optimum services to consolidate the predominant position occupied by Tianjin Port to the markets of sources of goods of foreign trade of Tianjin. Shanxi and Inner Mongolia; strive for more portion of the markets of sources of goods of foreign trade in Beijin. Hebei and Henan; and try to attract the goods of foreign trade to dever! to Tianjin Port by providing preferential measures for Gansu, Qinghai, Ningxia, Xingjiang and Shanxi.
To meet the needs of development, Tianjin Port must be built into an up-to-date., multi-functioned and comprehensive large port for international trade, which can be fulfilled by spec-.ding up the construction of harbour works; accelerating the course of an integral whole of the port and the port free trade zone; and establishing three centres: the harbour business centre, the goods traffic and operational centre with high efficiency and the centre of international information exchange and processing.
