As international economic analysts predict. the international economic development center in the 21st century will be the Asian-Pacific Region. Especially the Chinese economic circle ,which comprises Hong. Taiwan and those Owersea-Chinese-inhanited areas in the Asian-Pacific Region. will undergo much greater development. What's more. Bohai Sea - Yellow Sea Economic Circle and Northeast Asian Economic Circle are progressively taking shape. Therefore, Chinese economic development will occupy an important place among the whole world economy in 21st century. And ports are the contact points in the economic circle. vital to the developments of national economy and international trade. At present, governments in all the Asian-Pacific countries are attaching importance to the port function in the future economic development. taking ap-propriate measures to strengthen port planning and construction. paying attintion to the port environmental protection. further reforming the traditional tn3.0sport patterns and optimizing the whole transport system in port.
Facing the future. under the circumstance-s that China's economy is heading for the world. because of its stragetic geographical superiority and the condition for construction super deep-water port. Zhanjiang Port's position and function in the general national economic development strategy can not be ignored. For this reasonal the author briefly analyses and probes into the following issues on the basis of relevant materials: the position and function of Zhanjiang Port in the modern historical evolvement I the economic geographic Zhanjiang Port wi!] occupy in the time of Hong Kong and Macao's return to China and of the rapid development of regional economic cooperation and exchange, and the position and function Zhanjiang Port will hold as a pivotal port among the Southwest Coast when Guangdong' s economy develops with high-speed and Southwest China begins its economic exploitation.
