The purpose of this study is to examine gender equality and women's labor policy in Britain. Women's labor policy in Britain is based on the principle of minimum intervention of the state and places importance to the rule of market. The minimum principle which has been influencing on British welfare system reflects that the main objective of social policy is to encourage beneficiary's access to market. Women's labor policy has the characteristics that it is decided pursuant to market needs instead of women's interests. With decommodification effect being minimized, boundary of social right was limited and welfare benefit was decided based on household (family. There was extensive support for a dominant ideological emphasis on men's obligation to 'provide' and traditional tole of women as dependents. Considering insufficient and mild measures for the reconstruction of gender division of labor, the contents of scope of women's labor policy was still limited and the effect of gender equality was relatively low.
