This study pays special attention to the relationships between gender-roles and migration on the one hand and women's labor force participation on the other. These relationships have largely been ignored by existing studies on women's labor force participation in Korea. Variables affecting women's labor force participation included in this study are age, education, marital status, number of children, relationship to household head, number of migrations a women experienced, and the size of city where a woman lived in 2000. Of these variables marital status, number of children, and the relationship to household head are considered as reflecting gender-role. Migration experience may be considered as reflecting gender-role in that married women mostly migrate in response to their husbands economic opportunities rather than to their own. The dependent variable is whether or not a woman participated in the labor force. This study adopted the operational definition of labor force participation used in the 2000 Population and Housing Census in Korea. Two percent sample data of 2000 Population and Housing Census were used for analyses. Logistic regression is performed in two ways: one is the analysis of total national female population divided into urban and rural areas, and the other is the analysis of women aged 25-34 years, in urban and rural areas and in three educational categories. Women of 25-34 years are the ones who feel acutest conflict between gender-role performance and labor force participation. This analysis is conducted to see more closely the interrelationships among gender-role, education, and labor force participation behavior. The independent variables reflecting gender-role behavior and migration variable are generally found to have significant negative effects on women's labor force participation. Relationship to household head is also found to have significantly different effects on women's labor force participation by women's ages. The analysis of women 25-34 years old shows that the effects of independent variables on women's labor force participation vary greatly by the level of education attained by women.
