The purpose of this study is to examine women's labor policies in Sweden and Britain. It discusses the experience of Sweden that improved women's right to work and for maternity protection through strong state intervention and further attempted the restructuring of the gender division of labor. It also examines the British case that mitigated discriminating nature of gender difference through passive measures while maintaining the existing structure of gender inequality and reorganizing it. The difference between both countries could originate from the fact that the direction for women's labor policy and its contents and scope are different depending upon social conditions and composition principles of welfare systems. Based on the comparative discussion, the study depicts universal characteristics of women's labor policy and compares the difference in women's policies of both countries.
