1. Who are the Inner Child and the Old Wise Man?
The Inner Child contains two images of the opposites. One is the picture of an angel and the other is the image of the evil. The inner child in the W1Conscious influences the human psyche either on the positive or on the negative. C G. Jung called such an inner child "a child hero or divine child," especially in a positive side. A similar picture of the inner child IS discovered as a form of "an old wise man or woman" in dreams or fairy tares. The archetype of the old wise man also shows such opposite sides. 2. The Inner Child and the Old Wise Man in Dreams The inner child who appears, in a dream, as a dirty or suffering child may reflect the depressive state of human psyche. On the contrary, the divine child guides a person to the way of life or psyche journey m an unusual way. The inner or the old wise man often appears as a transitional object, as suggested by D. W. Winnicott, which leads a patient to individuation. 3. The Inner Child and the Old Wise Man in Stories In the creation story, Adam and Eve appear as the inner child, who attribute their faults to others. On the other hand, the baby Jesus takes a place of the savior in the unconscious. From the image of the prophet, such opposite sides are found at the same time (2 Kgs 2:19-24). From this point of view, Jung suggests that these IS also a shadow side of God, whose personality is totally different from that of human being. This is, so called, "a mystical union of the opposites," in Jung's terms. The inner child, In fairy tales, appears as a transitional object and guides a hero or heroine to a salvific situation 4. Magic of the Old Wise Man and Psychotherapy The old wide men or women often appear as the uncertain figures, who some liness become helpers, and at the same time who make a dreamer lost on the way of life journey. According to Jung's analytical psychology, such figures can be compared to Anima or Animus that exist in the collective unconscious The Animal Animus, having the characteristics of the opposites, guides us to the self, the place of the God-image. Thus, to realize the inner child or the old wise man in dreams starts to walk on the track of individuation
