This article is on the costumes of Park-lim and his wife found at Okcheon, Chung-buk province. Park-lim served as a judge in Jang Ye Won in the 17th century. The tombs of the Parks were removed on account of city remodelling plan, Under the procedure. their garments were unearthed. Although there is no decisive sign from the tombs, we can deduce their life times from family pedigree. They must have lived together at least from 1610 to 1647 A.D.
A long caftan (do-po), two side-opened caftans (chang-ui), two Jackets(저고리), a pair of socks(버선) and a pair of trousers(바지) were found from Park's tomb. And as a folk costumes for a married woman, two wadded long caftans (Jang-ui), a wadded skull-cap with a chin band, two Jackets (저고리) and a pair of wadded and quilted inner pants(속곳)with a suspender were found from a tomb of Park's wife.
The materials of the clothes are cotton and silk. The main color is white and two Jang-ui were dyed with indigo blue. The design shows the typical elements of the 17th century in Korea. All caftans and jackets from these tombs have no shoulder seams. But the method of making is rather similar with those of today in general.
