The study is summarized as follows.
First of all, the study has examined genre of <Domijeon>(도미전). Various studies of the past regarded Domijeon as a tale(설화), a series of biographies (열전) or a novel.(전기) However they are not based on comprehensive analysis of the literature, and they were preoccupied with a certain aspect of the story. Domijeon is more like a tale, and it appears a novel to some extent. However this analysis does not make it something totally different from a series of biographies. Considering Kim, Bu-sik(김부식)'s approach toward historical records and characteristics of a series of biographies in terms of genre, there is no problem in viewing Domijeon as a series of biographies. However Kim Bu Sik recognized Domijeon as a historical record because he judged that the story was worthwhile in terms of truth of narration and educational value.
The study also examined characters of Domijeon. Domi(도미) was portrayed as a high-spirited person who had a strong confidence in his wife and who did not yield to a king. King Gaeru(개루왕) was portrayed as an immoral ruler who deserted principles of royalty and who tried to dishonor a woman. Domi's wife was described as an ideal woman equipped with beauty and morality due to her integrity, wisdom, courage and confidence in her beloved husband.
Kim, Bu-sik did not intend to be preoccupied with faithfulness in Domijeon. He wanted to put more emphasis on fidelity of husband and wife and particularly, husband's strong confidence in his wife than a devoted wife or a woman of virtue.
Last but not the least, the study examined methods of narration of Domijeon. Narrator of Domijeon applied various methods of narration including omission, summarization and scenes. And it enabled the narrator to covey theme of the story more effectively than description of a tale handed down from the past in writing. In particular, it accurately figured out which part has to be summarized and which part should be suggested as scenes. And it flexibly connected them by making changes in description in order of summarization, scenes and summarization. The reason that Domijeon read rhythmical on the strength of adjustment of speed of flow of the story is that it made use of the two methods of description in various ways.
