The purpose of this study is to evaluate the level of safety and friendliness of the elderly in the dry space of A Bathhouse located in Oncheon-dong, Dongrae-gu, Busan Metropolitan City, and to suggest improvement measures to prevent safety accidents. Public bathhouses play an important role as a place for social communication for the elderly, and although they remind us of past memories, safety accidents frequently occur. However, research on the changing room, which is a dry space exposed to safety accidents due to moisture after bathing, is insufficient. We conducted an on-site investigation of the changing room, floor, bench, and entrance of A Bathhouse, and classified each space into ‘average’, ‘needs improvement’, and ‘satisfactory’ according to universal guidelines, and collected user opinions through interviews. As a result of the study, it was confirmed that the floor, bench, and changing room met the standards and were spaces that the elderly could safely use, but the entrance did not meet the standards and could pose a risk to the safety of the elderly. Accordingly, improvement measures such as installing a cane stand, minimizing stairs, installing mirrors, and attaching handles were suggested. This study provides basic data for safety evaluation of public bathhouses suitable for an aging society and emphasizes the importance of creating a safe environment for the elderly when designing and operating public bathhouses in the future.
