In a fast-evolving society, people often look for simplicity and minimalism amid complexity. Minimalism emerged in response to the complexities of the 1960s, characterized by rapid industrialization and urbanization, and embodies the concept of minimal art. Robert Morris, a prominent American artist and sculptor, is a key figure in the minimalism movement, creating sculptural works that deviated from formalist modern- ism in the 1960s. This study examines Robert Morris’s artworks from the 1960s to the 1970s, highlighting their key sculptural features. It proposes new fashion designs inspired by these characteristics. The research contents include examining the concept and background of minimalism, and deriving its sculptural characteristics based on previous studies; collecting and analyzing Robert Morris’s artworks through art museum web- sites, and combining minimalism’s sculptural characteristics with Robert Morris’s artwork features to develop fashion designs using the CLO3D program. Minimalism is characterized by simplicity, materiality, repetition, spatiality, and environmentality. First, various compositional methods inspired by Robert Morris’s artworks demonstrated the multifaceted nature of minimalism’s sculptural aspects. Second, combining minimalism’s sculptural characteristics with Morris’s artwork features resulted in creative and contemporary fashion designs that emphasize composition. Third, utilizing the CLO3D program for digital fashion designs allowed the pursuit of minimalism in garment production.
