This study compiled the data from 釜山府勢要覽 and 釜山の産業 , and based on this, conducted a sector-specific study on all companies in the Busan area during the colonial period. We analyzed which sectors led the Busan region's economy over time and how those sectors responded to changes in economic conditions and economic fluctuations. As a result of the analysis, several points that were somewhat different from existing research results were identified. First, contrary to the common belief that Busan grew around commerce and transportation because it was a port city, the manufacturing industry was the center of Busan. Based on trends in the number of companies, trends in paid-in capital, and the proportion of each sector, the center of Busan's industry since 1917 has been manufacturing. Second, companies in the Busan region responded sensitively to economic conditions and economic fluctuations. We responded proactively in all aspects, including the form of company establishment by period and industry, company establishment sector by period, and response to economic conditions. However, despite this, one of the chronic problems of the Busan economy is that the fundamental economic situation fluctuates greatly. In addition, in this process, the unique problems of Busan's manufacturing industry, namely, the lack of intra-regional division of labor and small scale, were developed.
