The purpose of this study is to decompose driving factors behind changes in the value added of the Korean ocean and fisheries industry using structural decomposition analysis (SDA). To achieve this, ocean-based input-output tables were constructed from the Bank of Korea"s 2015-2019 input-output tables. The empirical results show that the main factors for the change in value added of Korean ocean and fisheries industry were the change in the value-added coefficient and the change in exports. Conversely, changes in final consumption and investment contributed to the sustained increase in value added of Korean ocean and fisheries industry. Among the ten ocean and fisheries industries, changes in value-added coefficients in shipbuilding, shipping, port, and marine and fisheries services had significant impact on the ocean economy. Changes in final consumption substantially influenced value added in fisheries production, processing, distribution, marine leisure and tourism, as well as marine and fisheries services. Investment changes notably impacted value added in shipbuilding and marine and fisheries services. Lastly, export changes were crucial for value added in shipbuilding, shipping, and port industries. This study recommends various policies to foster the growth of value added in the Korean ocean and fisheries industry.
