In this study, health awareness, dietary habits, and body mass index (BMI) were investigated for some upper elementary school students in Anseong City. When the degree of obesity of the survey subjects was determined by BMI, students with standard weight were the most at 68.1%, followed by 14.7% of obese students, 10.0% of overweight students, and 7.2% of underweight students. In the homogeneity analysis of BMI distribution by grade and gender, the underweight rate was highest among 6th grade female students at 13.3%, and the obesity rate was highest among 6th grade male students at 22.7%. In health perception, ‘healthy’ was the highest at 42.5%, and in body type perception, ‘fit’ was the highest at 31.7%. The areas of improvement in eating habits were ‘picky eating’ at 26.5%, ‘irritating food’ at 20.9%, ‘snacks’ at 12.8%, ‘overeating’ at 9.2%, and ‘night snacking’ at 8.1%. Among the picky eating habits, the proportion of ‘I do it’ was 79.7%, and the highest reason for picky eating was ‘It does not suit my taste’ at 49.1%. Picky foods included ‘vegetables’ at 23.91%, ‘legumes’ at 21.1%, ‘fish and shellfish’ at 18.1%, and ‘kimchi’ at 7.5%. Additionally, there was a gender difference in picky eating, with male students eating ‘vegetables’ (34.8%) and female students eating ‘legumes’ (29.5%).
