The study aims to increase children"s awareness of etiquette and traditional cultural patterns by developing a textile pattern design and children"s outerwear design, using the Yejado, a symbol of etiquette and morality in Jeju-Hyojemunhado. The study also highlights the unique value of Jeju-Hyojemunhado as a traditional cultural archetype and identifies a material suitable for practical commercialization. A combination of theoretical, empirical, preliminary, and in-depth interviews was conducted. A total of 56 Yejado were collected, and their formative characteristics were derived. In addition, a preliminary survey was conducted on preferred colors and types of outerwear based on primary data on outerwear designs analyzed from four children"s clothing brands sold in domestic department stores. Based on the results from theoretical research, Yejado"s iconography was selected and characterized, textile patterns were developed using square and brick patterns arranged repeatedly, and the four textile patterns were recolored with the colors preferred by children. An in-depth interview survey was conducted, in which participants were presented with 20 2D designs for five types of children"s outerwear designs, each with four textile patterns. Each outerwear design was simulated in a 3D CLO virtual program based on the results of the in-depth interview survey. Then, five outerwear designs were produced using a 20-count cotton Oxford fabric printed by DTP. Photoshop 2022 and Illustrator 2022 from Adobe and CLO ver. 7.1 were used to develop textile pattern designs and children’s outerwear designs. In conclusion, based on Yejado"s instructive meaning and formative characteristics, a textile pattern of original and modern images and an children"s outerwear design applied to it were developed and presented through 3D simulation and actual production, allowing children to learn about the importance of etiquette naturally. Moreover, the study is meaningful in re-identifying the uniqueness and value of a traditional cultural circle and its applicability to practical commercialization.
