This study estimated how much the medical expenses and the frequency of medical services use decrease due to a continuous participation of people with disabilities in physical activities from 2011 to 2019, who had received health checkups from 2009 to 2012, using data from the National Health Insurance Corporation, and then analyzed economic ripple effects by applying above-mentioned empirical results to the Input-output model. The main findings are as follows: first, participation in physical activities decreased both the frequency of use of medical services and medical expenses, regardless of whether there is a disability or not. Second, the income per person with disabilities increased by 206,424 Korean won per year due to the continuous participation of people with disabilities in physical activities. Third, the economic ripple effects, which is estimated from the expenditure for participation in physical activities, the amount of medical expenses reduced from it, and the increased income from the improvement of productivity by it, are 528.58 billion Korean Won in production inducement effect, 240.97 billion Korean Won in added-value inducement effect, 3,972.4 persons in employment inducement effect. Combining these empirical results with the current acts, i.e., the National Health Insurance Act Article 3-2 Paragraph 2 Subparagraph 7 and Article 75 Paragraph 1 Paragraph 3, etc., it implies that an appropriate compensation system should be needed for people with disabilities, who participate in physical activities regularly.
